FORECAST IN DETAIL

While showers and storms aren’t a sure bet this afternoon, there is a decent chance of some. So the earlier the better as far as outdoor activities are concerned. Some storms could bring high winds and hail along with very heavy rain. Once a cold front clears the area sometime tomorrow, we get a bit of a break with drier and a bit cooler air early in the week before a more tropical feel takes hold once again.

Today (Sunday): Today should evolve much like our past few days with some early sun giving way to building clouds as the surface heats up. An approaching cold front provides a focus for storm development ahead of it, giving us a 50% chance of mid-to-late afternoon showers and storms, some possibly bringing strong winds and hail along with very heavy rain. Temperatures ahead of any storms surge to highs from near 90 to the mid-90s and the humidity is way up there. Confidence: Medium

What is the Storm Threat Level?

Tonight: The risk of showers and storms increases a bit during the evening and overnight, to around 60%, as the cold front gets closer and comes through. Again, some storms could be rather strong. Skies are mostly cloudy with lows reaching the low-to-mid 70s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Monday): The front may get hung up a bit, as summertime fronts tend to do. So at least through the morning we’ll hold onto mostly to partly cloudy skies and a 30-40% chance for lingering showers and storms (best chances south and east). As we move into the afternoon, breezes from the west/northwest should lower the humidity, decrease rain chances and increase sunshine. Expect highs in the upper 80s to near 90. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: A bit of a different feel as higher pressure builds in behind the cold front. Drier air - dew points should be about 10 degrees lower than we’ve seen lately - should allow overnight lows to get down to the 60s (suburbs) to near 70 (downtown). Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

The reprieve from heat and humidity continues on Tuesday. We’ll see mostly sunny skies out there and highs in the upper 80s to near 90. Just a slight chance of a quick pop-up shower. Tuesday night begins to get a little more on the sticky side with warmer lows in the low-to-mid 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

The air once again takes on that “heavy” feeling on Wednesday as the humidity jumps and early sun helps highs to near 90 to the mid-90s. Also back is the risk of scattered afternoon showers and storms. Confidence: Medium-High
