A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10
Yes, many areas absolutely need rain, but I just can’t deny the fine quality of a cool, low-humidity, sunny day in a DC summer. Get the Digit on Twitter| Discuss on Facebook
Our topsy-turvy summer continues. Today is the cool before the scorch as we experience below normal temperatures, very low humidity, and lots of sunshine. While tomorrow gets a bit warmer, we maintain relatively low humidity. Only by Thursday and especially Friday do we work our way back into the hazy, hot, and humid atmosphere that frequently dominates our summer weather. The heat should continue into the weekend, but we also pick up a risk of scattered thunderstorms. The dry weather is taking its toll, so hopefully we get some needed rains.
Today (Tuesday): Sunny skies, low humidity, and relatively cool temperatures that peak this afternoon in the upper 70s to low 80s qualify today as a Nice Day. We do have some breezes from the north and northwest at 10-15 mph that could occasionally gust a bit higher. But overall, this is the easy best day of the week qualifier. Confidence: High
Tonight: Mostly clear skies and cool conditions from the middle 50s in the outer suburbs to the low-to-mid 60s in the city. Winds are light and the low dew points make for a comfortable summer night. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Mostly sunny skies with highs ranging through the middle 80s and still generally low humidity levels. This almost qualified as a Nice Day, but many areas could inch a degree or two above 85 during the afternoon. Light winds. Confidence: High
Tomorrow night: Partly cloudy, but still comfortable with lows ranging from the upper 50s in the suburbs to the middle 60s in the city. Confidence: Medium-highA LOOK AHEAD
Thursday takes the next step in the hotter direction. Expect highs in the low to maybe middle 90s with gradually increasing humidity (dew points start marching their way up into the 60s at this point). Thursday night is mostly clear, but more humid with lows from the mid 60s to middle 70s. Confidence: Medium-High
Friday and Saturday offer a repeat of late last week with mid-to-upper 90s and increasing humidity each day. Partly to mostly sunny skies. Friday and Saturday night lows should stay in the 70s. We do see an outside chance of a thunderstorm in the more humid air mass (20% risk both days). Confidence: Medium
Sunday should ease up a bit on the heat as the main hot ridge pattern shifts back toward the Plains and away from our area. We still expect a lingering hot and humid pattern with highs in the low-to-mid 90s. Also, we cannot rule out a slight 20% risk of a thunderstorm or two. Confidence: Low-Medium
