FORECAST IN DETAIL
The mercury climbed to 98 Sunday at Reagan National, the 40th 90+ day of the year and the 26th 95+ day. We’ll see a few more 90+ days this week, but - thankfully - probably not any at or above 95. By the weekend, the pattern may flip to one dominated more by days in the 80s. To start this transition, Friday may produce widespread storms in a week which looks dry more often than not.
Today (Monday): A cold front crawls through the region today from northwest to southeast. Its proximity may produce some showers in the morning (30 percent chance) and, mainly south of town, in the afternoon (20 to 40 percent chance north to south). Skies are variably cloudy with a tendency for more sunshine as the day wears on. Highs are the mid-to-upper 80s. Confidence: Medium
Tonight: Partial clearing and not as muggy - but still mild. Lows range from the low 60s in the cooler suburbs to near 70 downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): The front’s out of our hair, meaning somewhat lower (but still moderate) humidity levels as modestly drier air filters in. Ample quantities of sunshine give temperatures a fighting shot a crossing the 90-degree threshold. Light winds from the north back to out of the southeast. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow night: Mostly clear but becoming a bit muggy again as southerly flow takes over. Lows range from the low-to-mid 60s in the cooler suburbs to the low 70s downtown. Confidence: Medium-HighA LOOK AHEAD
Wednesday and Thursday are typical days for the first half of August. Partly sunny, hot and humid with a 20-30 chance (highest odds Thursday) of isolated afternoon and evening storms. Highs both days are in the low 90s. Overnight, it’s partly cloudy and muggy, with lows in the mid-to-upper 60s to the mid-70s (downtown). Confidence: Medium
Another slow-moving cold front makes its way into the region Friday, likely triggering showers and storms (50-60 percent chance), a few of which may be strong. Highs probably get up to 90 or so before storms move in. Showers and storms may continue Friday night, with lows in the 60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium
Depending on the progress of the front, Saturday may be 1) partly sunny, much less humid and pleasant - with highs in the mid-80s. Or, 2) it may be a bit warmer than that and quite humid with showers and storms around. I slightly favor the the warmer, more unsettled scenario. Either way, by Saturday night, skies should be/become mostly clear with lows in the 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium
Sunday looks good right now with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs 84-88 with low-to-moderate humidity. Confidence: Low-Medium
