FORECAST IN DETAIL

We probably reach at least 90 again today and there’s even a chance we tie the 1980 record with our 28th day at or above 95. All eyes turn to the potential for storms later in the afternoon or evening as a cold front gets ready to come through. This weekend we slowly try to give this front the boot, but it may stay close enough to bother us with the threat of periodic showers. At least we’ll have cooler, comfortable air to enjoy. Sunnier skies may not settle back in until the next work week is underway. Stinks!

Today (Friday): Mainly sunny morning skies give way to building afternoon clouds. But that shouldn’t stop our highs from reaching the low-to-mid 90s, thanks to mild breezes from the southwest ahead of an approaching cold front. A 40-50% chance of showers and storms kicks in starting around 4 p.m. or so as the front gets closer. Humidity is a little higher than yesterday but still not too bad. Confidence: Medium

What is the Storm Threat Level?

Tonight: Very cloudy this evening with showers and thunderstorms a threat (60-70% chance) until at least midnight – a couple storms could be on the strong side. Any storms, storms plus winds coming from the north later in the evening and overnight, help push lows down to the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tomorrow (Saturday): Cooler highs from the upper 70s to low 80s should feel quite pleasant, especially with lower humidity. The wildcard is whether we have to worry about showers from a cold front stalled to our south. So far it looks like partly to mostly cloudy skies and a 40-50% chance of showers. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tomorrow night: Shower chances should decrease heading into the evening with partly cloudy skies overnight. Temperatures should manage to dip down into the 60s area-wide. With lower humidity it’s a pretty darn comfortable night overall! Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday: A cold front stalled to our south, and the potential for low pressure to develop along it, means a good deal of uncertainty for the Sunday forecast. Showers are not a sure thing at this point but chances are decent at around 40%. The cool streak continues with partly to mostly cloudy skies, highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and humidity mostly a non-factor. Confidence: Low-Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Shower chances continue Sunday night as low pressure potentially scoots by off the coast. Lows probably hover in the upper 60s downtown, while the suburbs may briefly dip into the low 60s away from that urban heat island. Confidence: Low-Medium

You’ll enjoy the low humidity Monday and Tuesday. And with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs from near 80 to the mid-80s, we may even have to break out the Nice Day Sun! - assuming shower chances that are currently slim to none stay that way. Confidence:Medium
