FORECAST IN DETAIL

After several days of upper 90s to near 100 readings, topped off with some severe thunderstorms, it’ll be nice to get a little reprieve this weekend. Temperatures are still going to be rather warm, but humidity is down compared to recently and that alone should make for a noticeable difference. Now that we’re in summer by all measures, it could be much worse! Plus, there’s a cool-down in the not-to-distant future.

Today (Saturday): Behind the cold front responsible for yesterday’s storminess, we see a slight respite in summertime heat and humidity along with mostly sunny skies. Light northwest winds continue pumping in drier air as well, so highs in the mid-80s to near 90 won’t feel too bad. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Skies are mostly clear to partly cloudy through the night as light northwest winds persist. With lesser humidity levels, lows get as far as the lower 60s in the cooler suburbs to around 70 in the city. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Sunday): It’s partly cloudy and not all that dissimilar to today. However, a return of a south wind should bring humidity levels back up by afternoon. With lots of sun, highs should mainly settle into the upper 80s and lower 90s. We’ll need to keep an eye out for some afternoon showers or storms. While it’s only a 30% chance or so, if any form they could be strong. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: A few showers or thundershowers are possible, but it’s only a slight chance, and otherwise it’s partly to mostly cloudy. With humidity returning to near-oppressive levels, we should see minimums a notch higher than tonight. So, mid-60s in the cool spots to low 70s downtown. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

On Monday, we’ll have another cold front passing through as a strong upper-level low pressure pushes a cool air mass to the south through the Great Lakes. Depending on its timing, we may run the risk of thunderstorms again. Right now, it looks like the front comes in too early for it to tap a fully heated day, but it bears watching. Assuming we see a good deal of clouds, possibly mixed with showers and storms, highs reach the mid-80s to near 90. If clouds and storms hold off, it could be a bit warmer. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tuesday looks like a real treat from here. Sun, low humidity, and superb temperatures under a light breeze. Highs might only make it to around 80, which at the end of June is considerably below normal. Time to grab a scarf? Confidence: Medium
