FORECAST IN DETAIL

The overall set up with warm and humid air near the surface and low pressure aloft continues today, which also means a continuation of hit-or-miss storms that can form with little warning. That low pressure high above begins to lose its grip starting tomorrow, sending storm chances lower and temperatures higher Thursday and Friday. Hot and and humid conditions carry on straight through the weekend.

Today (Wednesday): August starts rather average as far as temperatures go, with partly sunny skies and highs headed for the upper 80s, and with typical August humidity. An isolated shower chance for the early-to-mid morning increases to a 40-50% chance of showers and thunderstorms during the late morning and afternoon. Any rain we can get is welcome given area rainfall is around 7 to 8 inches below average since the start of the year. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: The shower and storm risk should decrease during the evening and pretty much go away overnight. It’s pretty much the usual for lows – upper 60s to low 70s with partly cloudy skies above. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Heat builds in once again. Not of the 100-degree variety, but highs in the low-to-mid 90s under partly to mostly sunny skies are plenty warm. Humidity continues to hover in the moderate or moderate to high range. Only a 20% chance of a late-afternoon thunderstorm. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: We’ll keep a slight chance of an evening shower or storm in the forecast just in case. With the hotter daytime highs, lows trend warmer as well, bottoming overnight from near 70 to the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Forget a refreshingly cool Friday. Instead we get more of the same with partly to mostly sunny skies, moderate humidity and highs in the mid-90s. Maybe a couple thunderstorms around during the afternoon into evening (30% chance), followed by Friday night lows from near 70 to the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium

A hot and humid August weekend awaits. Nothing we can’t handle though. Skies are at least partly sunny as highs hit the low-to-mid 90s with a 20-30% chance of showers or storms. Saturday night lows settle back into the 70s . Confidence: Medium
