Back to autumn, and in style! Perhaps enough clouds to keep it below a 10, but it should be close. Get the Digit on Twitter | Discuss on Facebook

It’s getting harder and harder to argue the cool season isn’t here, or at least right around the corner. Today should feature temperatures a bit below the average high of 74 at National and Dulles, but that keeps readings right near the center of comfortable. Overall, the weekend is mostly a winner, and considerably better than what might be coming in the early work week, as rain gathers off to the south and eyes the area.

Today (Saturday): The front plaguing the area kicks far enough south to give us a solid Saturday. Under partly cloudy skies, temperatures range from the upper 60s to low 70s most locations. Winds are light from the north. Get out there! Though I fully expect a good day to be outside, confidence in sky cover is not quite great enough to issue the stamp, partly because cold air aloft can promote extra clouds and even sometimes a random shower. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: The real question as to how cool it gets might be how many clouds pass by. Since I expect at least periods of fairly cloudy conditions, we’ll go with lows reaching the upper 40s in the cold spots to the mid-or-upper 50s downtown. If we see more clear sky, temps are down a level in all spots. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): This looks like another decent day, though there should be more cloudiness than today, especially late. Those clouds might also spit out some showers heading into evening. There’s about a 30 percent chance of ‘em, but doubtful anything too intense. Highs reach the low-to-mid 70s regardless. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: After a continuing risk of showers in the evening, a reinforcing shot of autumnal air should tend to reduce clouds in the overnight period. Temperatures should be similar to tonight, so again expect some places to dip into the 40s, with downtown closer to the mid-50s. Confidence: Medium

A storm in the South moves this direction on Monday (will we say that a lot this winter?), but it should try to stay south and southwest through most of the day. Either way, clouds could be numerous and generally increasing, with showers possible by afternoon. Highs head back toward where they’ve been in prior days, mainly in the 70 to 75 range. Once we hit evening, showers become a 50/50 bet, and it stays that way through the night as lows reach the 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium

The storm system becomes less organized through Tuesday, but it’s moisture should be squarely parked over the region. That means off and on showers remain likely through the day, as we’re socked in with plenty of clouds. A bit warmer air is overhead, so highs near 80 are possible. Though if we see enough shower activity, 70s seem a better bet. Confidence: Low-Medium
