Somebody wake me up when this heat wave is over. Until then, I see no redeeming qualities about this weather. Get the Digit on Twitter | Discuss on Facebook

The Dog Days of August are alive and well in mid-July. Yeah, we’re more used to this now than we were earlier in the summer. But it’s still hot and gross, especially if you have to walk more than a block to or from the bus, metro, or whatever your mode of transportation. The heat’s not quite as stifling tomorrow, and by Friday through the weekend we’re talking highs near to below average for a change. Today through at least Friday we may also have to dodge some showers and storms.

Temperatures: Latest D.C. area temperature map. See interactive map on our Weather Wall.

Today (Wednesday): Just like yesterday, temperatures are already pushing 90 by mid-morning, poised to rocket all the way to the upper 90s to near 100 under partly sunny skies. The humidity is in full force too, which means afternoon heat indices near 105. We’ll run a 40-50% chance of showers and potentially strong to severe thunderstorms during the late afternoon into evening. Confidence: Medium-High

What is the Storm Threat Level?

Tonight: After a 40-50% chance of evening showers and possibly strong to severe thunderstorms, it’s just plain muggy overnight with partly cloudy skies. Lows by morning only cool to the mid-70s to low 80s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): Partly to mostly cloudy skies should temper highs just a touch, probably in the mid-90s. It’s still humid, and a cold front nearby increases afternoon/evening shower and storm chances to about 50-60%. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Scattered showers and storms remain possible (40-50% chance) through the night. It’s not quite as warm as tonight, but still well above average with partly to mostly cloudy skies and muggy 70s for lows. Confidence: Medium

A stalled front and low pressure combine for a partly to mostly cloudy and cooler Friday with a good chance of showers and maybe some thunderstorms. The air is still pretty juicy, but at least temperatures are considerably lower with highs in the 80s. More showers are possible Friday night with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Low-Medium

A few showers may linger into Saturday morning. After that, rain chances head way down through the remainder of the weekend. Humidity is also lower, I’d say in the moderate range, with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs rising from the 80s on Saturday to near 90 on Sunday. Confidence: Medium
