FORECAST IN DETAIL

In case you haven’t noticed, winter 2012-13 is the winter of the quick-hitter. So far, we’ve seen several of these fast-moving, minimal accumulation systems move through. Now we have three more shots in the next three days, as a train of upper-level disturbances threatens to add fractional snow accumulations to this winter’s well-below-average total. By midweek, snow chances are on their way out as highs try to break into the 40s.

Today (Sunday): Mostly cloudy skies with a few flurries or light snow showers possible (sound familiar?). This clipper has even less energy than yesterday’s, so any accumulation should be very light, a dusting at most. It’s a little warmer than Saturday but still cold with highs in the mid-to-upper 30s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: It’s a chilly and breezy night as the clipper scoots off the coast. A chance of flurries or snow showers lingers early-to-mid evening while you’re watching the game (or at least the commercials?) Skies should tend to clear out thereafter as drier and colder air moves in and overnight lows drop to the upper teens to low 20s. Confidence: High

Keep reading for the forecast through midweek...

Tomorrow (Monday): Tomorrow starts with some early-to-mid morning sun. Clouds are then on the increase, though, as our next quick-hitting clipper begins to approach. By late afternoon we pick up a 30% chance of flurries or snow showers with little or no accumulation. Still cold with highs likely no better than the mid-30s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow Night: Another of our winter 2012-13 clipper specials comes scampering through. Occasional flurries or snow showers during the evening into overnight, possibly a period of light snow, shouldn’t amount to more than a dusting to an inch or so. Overnight lows slip to the mid-to-upper 20s. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

A few flurries or light snow showers are possible early Tuesday morning before skies brighten or partially clear. Temperatures still struggle with highs only reaching the mid-to-upper 30s. We could see a few more flurries or snow showers Tuesday night as another area of upper-level energy swings through and lows settle in the 20s. Confidence: Medium

By Wednesday, we lose the snow chances, and it looks a tad warmer around here. Expect skies favoring the sun a bit more than clouds, and temperatures moving up to highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Confidence: Medium
