* Update, 10:30 a.m.: Per our Twitter updates, isolated thundershowers have been occurring in Montgomery county this morning which are shifting east. A few additional isolated thundershowers have developed in Prince William and southern Fauquier county. Bottom line: Hit or miss thundershowers are possible throughout the day, not just this afternoon as initially forecast.

TODAY'S DAILY DIGIT
A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10

Kind of a high score for humid low-to-mid 90s. Guess my standards are dropping with every 90+ day we add to the total.

Summer keeps on rollin’ around here with highs past 90 almost a sure bet today and tomorrow. The best shower and storm chances wait for Friday, when storms could be fierce, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see some activity before. Saturday’s forecast carries the most uncertainty of the next several days, while Sunday may well provide a spectacular end to the coming weekend.
Today (Wednesday): Temperatures trend warmer once again today as highs make a run for the low-to-mid 90s under partly sunny skies. Moderate to high humidity doesn’t help the situation, either. Just a slight chance of an afternoon shower or storm. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: Keeping a slight chance of an early-evening shower or storm in the forecast for good measure. Otherwise it’s a partly cloudy and fairly muggy night with lows in the upper 60s to mid-70s (suburbs to city). Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Much the same as today with moderate to high humidity and highs probably in the low-to-mid 90s again. Skies should be partly to mostly sunny for much of the day, though clouds may increase in the afternoon as a bit of upper-level energy brings a 30-40% chance of mid-to-late afternoon showers or storms. Confidence: Medium
Tomorrow night: Shower and storm chances increase to 50% during the evening into the overnight. Not much new with temperatures as muggy lows only retreat to near 70 to the mid-70s. Confidence: Low-Medium
A LOOK AHEADOur next cold front gets close enough on Friday to raise shower and storm chances to 60%, especially during the afternoon into evening. It’s still humid with highs in the upper 80s to near 90, and a strong area of upper-level low pressure to the west means some storms could be quite intense. Showers and storms may remain a threat Friday night as lows end up around 70 or in the low 70s. Confidence: Low-Medium
The Saturday forecast is not a terribly confident one at this point. For now, it looks like the front sticks around long enough to keep shower and storm chances up around 40-50%. Probably a mix of sun and clouds with highs back to the upper 80s to near 90 and still plenty of humidity. By Saturday night, the front should be on its way out to sea. That means a decreasing chance of rain with lows in the mid-60s to mid-70s, and a mostly sunny Sunday with lower humidity and highs in the 80s. Confidence: Medium
