It’s muggy, it’s hot, and some storms may very well disrupt. Definitely sub-par. Get the Digit on Twitter| Discuss on Facebook

Warmer weather is on the way as we head into our next heat wave of the summer. Lucky for us, this one is a bit weaker and much shorter than the last. Nonetheless, highs could reach reach 90 or higher today through at least Wednesday, with temperatures well into the 90s Tuesday and maybe Wednesday, too. The best chances for relief from the heat in the form of liquid refreshment come this afternoon and Wednesday.

Today (Sunday): First thing you’ll notice today, it’s juicy out there. Even without a whole bunch of sun, our temperatures climb steadily into the 80s, topping out from near 90 to the low 90s for highs. A few showers are possible early, but the best chance (60%) of showers and thunderstorms is during the afternoon. With this humid air mass, any storms could be very heavy rainers, so keep an eye out in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Confidence: Medium

What is the Storm Threat Level?

Tonight: The evening offers a 50-60% chance of showers and storms, though any activity should tend to decrease in coverage by mid-to-late evening. We hold on to the chance of a lingering shower or two overnight with lows mainly in the low-to-mid 70s under mostly cloudy skies. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Monday): Skies brighten and the humidity comes down a notch as we head back to work. Figures. Still, it’s a hot one with skies turning mostly sunny and temperatures climbing quickly toward highs in the low-to-mid 90s. Any shower or storm activity is more likely south of the area, but there’s still a 20% chance we see a shower or storm in or around D.C. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Aside from the chance of a stray shower, our evening and overnight feature mostly clear skies and mild air as lows range through the 70s, maybe near 80 downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

This next heat wave hits its stride on Tuesday. Mostly sunny skies and high humidity put a hurtin’ on us, with highs likely in the upper 90s and the afternoon heat index rising to near or a bit past 100. Only a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm. It’s another mild and muggy one Tuesday night with partly cloudy skies and lows in the mid-70s to near 80. Confidence: Medium

Wednesday mostly likely marks the final day of this mini-heat streak. Sunny skies early allow temperatures to climb up into the 90s once again. But as a cold front approaches, heat-busting showers and thunderstorms become a decent bet by afternoon or evening. Confidence: Medium
