8:45 p.m. update: Most of the scattered showers and storms that drifted through parts of the metro region early this evening have faded. Another area of showers has moved into Loudoun, western Prince William and Fauquier counties. It’s trying to make a push towards the metro area, but weakening. With the loss of day time heating, I think there’s just a 40 percent chance it holds together and makes it here. The majority of our region (but not necessarily everyone) should stay dry through the overnight hours. Monitor our Twitter feed for any more updates.

For the last several days, we’ve held the humidity at bay by-and-large. That all changes today as a warm front lifts through the region. Not only does this front bring the threat of showers and storms, but it introduces a very warm, sticky air mass that hangs around into the middle of next week.
Today (Saturday): We awaken to a slight chance of showers (30 percent chance). The opportunity for showers and storms then increase as the day goes on reaching about 60 percent by mid-to-late afternoon. Clouds hold high temperatures in the low-to-mid 80s but you’ll notice the increase in humidity levels. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: We run a small (30 percen) chance of evening showers/storms; otherwise skies are partly cloudy. It’s muggy with lows 72-77 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): Humid flow from the south takes over, boosting afternoon temperatures to near 90 or even a little higher despite considerable cloud cover (with some intervals of sun). An approaching area of upper level low pressure stands a decent (50-60 percent) chance to spawn some storms in the sultry air towards the afternoon and evening. Some of the storms could be heavy. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow night: Evening storms are possible (30-40 percent). Aside from any storms, it’s partly cloudy and mild, with lows 72-77 (suburbs to city). Confidence: Medium-High
A LOOK AHEADMonday and Tuesday are both hot and humid as southerly flow continues. Highs Monday are likely to be in the low 90s with mid-90s Tuesday. There’s a slight chance of PM storms Monday (20-30 percent chance) and little chance of rain by Tuesday. Monday night’s partly cloudy and mild, with lows 72-79 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium
