FORECAST IN DETAIL

The sun returns for an extended engagement starting today. However, what really gets my attention is an end to a nearly two week string of below normal temperatures starting this Saturday. That is just the beginning as some areas will take a shot at 70 by Sunday and Monday. So for those of you with the long weekend, plan something outdoors.

Today (Thursday): The morning is still likely to be working to shed the leftover clouds from the coastal storm. However, sun should be in firm control by the afternoon, which will boost highs to the low-to-mid 50s. It still feels pretty raw with winds of 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph from the northwest. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: The stars finally grace the evening sky but chilly readings in the 40s force a hasty retreat indoors. Breezes are still enough to add a shiver. Some frost is possible outside the beltway with lows in the low-to-mid 30s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): Enjoy sunshine from dawn to dusk today. Temperatures are noticeably warmer with highs reaching the mid-to-upper 50s. Breezes lighten up to make it more comfortable as well. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Temperatures still have a hard time holding their ground and are back in the 40s for the evening. Calm conditions allow most areas to slip back into the mid-30s in the colder suburbs to the low 40s downtown. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

At last the below normal temperature regime breaks with highs on Saturday climbing to the low-to-mid 60s. Even better there should not be a cloud in the sky and winds are nearly calm. Don’t let this one get away without a little outdoor time. Temperatures drop off quickly in the evening so keep jackets handy. Lows end up in the upper 30s suburbs to mid-40s downtown. Confidence: High

Veterans Day (Sunday) weather does its part to salute our armed forces. For early risers, a sliver of a crescent moon is perched just above Venus in a lovely display of astrological balancing. Highs should easily reach the mid-to-upper 60s and feel like perfection after all the recent cold. Skies remain clear and breezes pick up from the south. Evening readings in the lower 60s end up settling to the mid-to-upper 40s for lows. Confidence: High

Monday still promises to be a delight for all of you with a holiday.to get out and about. There is a cold front crossing the Midwest that could begin to shoot a few clouds our direction later in the day. It should not be fast enough to stop us from reaching the mid-to-upper 60s one more time. Confidence: Medium
