FORECAST IN DETAIL

One day. One precious day this week promises to be absolutely delightful. That’s Tuesday - when we have ultra low humidity and comfy high temps near 80. But - after a reasonably pleasant transition day Wednesday - the heat comes on strong Thursday, and, by Friday, 100 degrees is in play once again. Aside from a possible shower the first half of today and maybe late Saturday, rain opportunities are scarce this week.

Today (Monday): There’s a slight chance of a shower or thundershower through early afternoon as a cold front clears the area, especially east of I-95. Otherwise, skies are partly sunny and we see a gradual reduction in humidity levels. Highs are close to average in the mid-80s. Winds from the southwest become from the northwest at 10-15 mph and turn a bit gusty (20-25 mph). Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: What a night! Very dry air moves in behind front, with dew points dipping into the upper 40s by morning. Some of the cooler suburbs dip all the way down to the low 50s and even locations downtown drop through the 60s. There’s a bit of a breeze from the northwest at around 10 mph. Open up your windows! Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Hands-down the pick of the week. It’s about as good as it gets with a blissful combination of a refreshing northwest breeze at 10-20 mph and very dry air (dew points in the 40s!). Some fair weather afternoon clouds are possible, but there’s plenty of sun - so many spots should see highs around 80 (mid-to-upper 70s in the cooler spots to the north and northwest). Confidence: Mediium-High

Tomorrow night: A second straight pleasantly cool night. Skies are clear with lows from the low 50s to the low 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

On Wednesday, we begin a warming trend, but humidity levels remain comfortable (dew points in the 50s). Mostly sunny skies elevate afternoon temperatures back to normal levels in the mid-80s. Mostly clear Wednesday night with lows in the mid-to-upper 50s (cooler suburbs) to mid-60s (downtown). Confidence: Medium-High

The next heat wave arrives Thursday through Saturday (although humidity may not be as oppressive as last week’s). Thursday’s the most tolerable of the three days with highs of 90-95 and low-to-moderate humidity. Both Friday and Saturday are back in 95-100 territory with moderate humidity levels (slightly higher Saturday compared to Friday). Overnight lows are generally in the 70s downtown with 60s in the cooler suburbs. Confidence: Medium

Saturday afternoon/night into Sunday, a weak cold front may settle south, triggering a small chance of showers and storms - especially between Saturday late afternoon and the first half of Sunday. Somewhat cooler air may follow with lows in the 60s (except low 70s downtown) Sunday morning, and highs Sunday afternoon near 90. Confidence: Low-Medium
