FORECAST IN DETAIL

Are we done with excessive heat for the summer? It’s too soon to make that call, but what’s clear is that nothing too brutal lies in our immediate future. In fact, by late this coming weekend, a touch of early fall may well be in the air. Unfortunately, for those seeking rain, we just have a couple chances of scattered showers/storms this week.

Today (Monday): It feels great this morning with most of us starting the day in the 60s. But a wind from the south coupled with a decent amount of sun sends the mercury back up to near 90 by late afternoon. And yes, you’ll notice a touch of humidity (moderate levels). Some could see an isolated shower or storm, but they’re unlikely (less than 20 percent chance). Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Partly cloudy skies and mild. Lows range from the mid-60s in the cooler suburbs to the low 70s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): A little frontal system works towards the region, meaning variable cloud cover and a 30-40% chance of showers and storms - with the best chance during the afternoon. Highs climb to near 90. Confidence: Mediium-High

Tomorrow night: A few showers and storms continue into the evening hours (40% chance); otherwise, it’s partly cloudy with lows in the 60s to near 70 (downtown). Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Weak high pressure tries to build into the region Wednesday, but Tuesday’s front is not far to the east. So I’ll call for lingering clouds and a 20% chance of showers/storms east of I-95, with partly sunny and dry conditions elsewhere. Highs reach the upper 80s. Gradual clearing Wednesday night with lows 61-68 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium

High pressure is over the area Thursday, so a sunny, dry day is likely in order with highs near 90. Partly cloudy Wednesday night, with lows from the low-to-mid 60s in the cooler suburbs to the low 70s downtown.. Confidence: Medium-High

Between Friday and Saturday, a strong cold front pushes through the region. Showers and storms are most likely Friday (40 percent chance) when temperatures take one more run at 90 degrees. Showers and storms may linger into Friday evening, and even into Saturday (best chance east of town) with overnight lows 65-70, and highs Saturday in the low-to-mid 80s under variably cloudy skies. Confidence: Medium

Saturday night and Sunday a rush of cooler, drier air comes in, with lows Saturday night in the mid-to-upper 50s in the cooler suburbs to the mid-60s downtown. Partly sunny, breezy and pleasant Sunday, with highs in the low 80s. Confidence:Medium
