For once this 2012-2013 winter season, a snow event behaved as advertised in the Washington, D.C. area - with amounts meeting and, in a few places, exceeding forecasts.
Generally speaking, the light, sweepable snow totaled about 1 inch in the immediate metro region (including Fairfax, Montgomery, the District, and Prince George’s county), although the snow hole that is Reagan National Airport only logged 0.4 inches. Dulles reported in with 1.8 inches and BWI Airport 2 inches.
Jackpot totals over 4 inches occurred in southern St. Mary’s county where one rather astonishing 5.5 inch total was reported by a National Weather Service spotter.
As always, we received some great images of the snow from our readers via social media.
