FORECAST IN DETAIL

Yesterday featured temperatures a smidge cooler than normal, and today should be pretty close to normal. Not a bad way to end what looks like the warmest March on record for D.C. Unfortunately for weekend sunshine fans, we battle clouds today and perhaps a few showers as well. However, tomorrow features sunnier times, and it’s just the start of a number of days with plenty of that stuff.

Today (Saturday): We should wake up to a fair amount of clouds, and potentially some scattered showers or mist across the area. With any luck, skies start to clear out during the second half of the day as the wind shifts, though there’s a bit of upper-level energy lagging behind the front that might promote additional cloudiness, so sun’s no sure bet. Highs should be near 60 or into the low 60s, unless by some chance we break out well late day. Winds shift to north and northwest behind the front, blowing around 10 mph at times. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Cooler air behind the front sets the stage for a chilly overnight. Partly cloudy skies and a light wind from the north may help us from reaching full potential if we had clear skies and light winds. Still, temperatures on their way to lows in the mid-30s for the outer suburbs to the low 40s downtown will make you want at least a light coat late-night. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): This should be the pick of the weekend as partly-to-mostly sunny skies are expected. Warmth begins to make a run at us, but it’s going to battle cool morning lows and a slowly exiting colder air mass. With highs still ranging from about 62-68, there’s not likely to be too much grumbling. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Skies are partly cloudy and it’s perhaps a bit breezy as a south and southwesterly wind pattern takes over. Lows end up in the upper 40s to low 50s across the area. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

It seems fairly common for Monday to be a winner of a weather day while we’re all back in the office. Well, this looks like another. Mostly sunny skies, light winds and temperatures rising to near 70. Might try to take a three or four hour lunch break? Confidence: Medium

Milder air continues to attempt to overtake the region on Tuesday, but given how often we’ve ended up influenced at least in part by proximity to the ocean, I’m going to take the cautious route and go for highs in the mid-60s to near 70 (80s could get close though). Skies are partly to mostly sunny early with increased clouds late. Any showers or rumbles should hold off ‘til after dark, but we might as well at least consider the outside chance of one late day. Confidence: Medium
