Forecast: A superior Saturday Spring day

Aside from PM shower risk, Sunday looks good too

(originally posted at 5 a.m., updated at 6:20 p.m.)

Evening forecast update (6:20 p.m.): We’re looking at some periods of cloudiness overnight rather than just clear skies. Sunday’s forecast is unchanged with still a slight chance of showers in the afternoon. Temps should be pleasant, with highs near 70.

FORECAST IN DETAIL

By and large, our Saturday’s this spring have been less than stellar. But aside from a high tree pollen count (which I can mitigate with a Zyrtec), there’s nothing I can find fault with today. Sunday doesn’t like bad either, but increasing clouds and a slight afternoon shower chance mean it won’t stack up to today. Enjoy this overall nice weekend, because the early to middle portion of next week look foul.

Today (Saturday): Clouds are few and far between as April closes in sunny style. After beginning the day in the 40s, temps take a nice ride up to around 70 degrees. You’ll notice a bit of breeze from the north at around 10 mph, but it won’t be at all uncomfortable. Confidence: High

Tonight: Skies are clear and it does cool off quickly as the sun goes down. Overnight lows vary widely, ranging from the low 40s in the cooler suburbs to the low 50s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Sunday): The day gets off to a promising start with abundant sunshine. But clouds slowly increase toward and into the afternoon. It may become mostly cloudy by mid-to-late afternoon with a 20-30% chance of a shower as a warm front lifts through. Highs are again around 70. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: We could (30 percent chance) see a shower or two through mid-evening but then it should be dry for the remainder of the night. Skies become partly cloudy with lows 50-55 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Warm flow from the south makes for a mild Monday. Temperatures should have little trouble reaching the mid-70s. The fly in the ointment is a cold front which increases cloud cover during the afternoon and brings a good (50-60 percent) chance of showers and thunderstorms late in the afternoon into evening. Overnight, it remains cloudy as the cold front gets hung up over the area, with lows in the 50s. Confidence: Medium

Tuesday may well be terrible, as a wave of low pressure rides up the stalled out front. Rain is likely and temperatures don’t rise appreciably, with highs around 60. Confidence: Medium
