Forecast: Clearing skies but winds are whipping; splendid weekend

A somewhat subjective rating of the
day's weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

If it weren't for the winds this would be a nice day but I am not much into sailing, especially on land.

FORECAST IN DETAIL

The one undeniable fact today is that it will be windy. This makes it feel cooler than it is. However, with increasing sunshine and showers out of the picture, who can grouse. Our streak of keeping the good weather on the weekend is still golden. Lots of sun and seasonable temperatures should give no one an excuse, at least weatherwise, from getting out and enjoying the fall foliage that is coming on fast!

Today (Thursday): There may still be a good amount of cloud cover to start this day. Those increasingly strong winds from the southwest are perfect to dissipate most of the clouds and probably by noon. The winds turn into a bit of a nuisance by afternoon as they are 15-25 mph, gusting to 35 mph. That makes highs in the low-to-mid 60s a bit brisk. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Winds relent but only slightly, running 10-15 mph out of the west. A notable chill comes from evening readings in the 50s. Under those starry skies lows should slip to the mid-upper 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Friday): Our storm finally pulls up into Canada and this should allow winds to finally diminish as the day progresses. Clouds are still likely to skitter by now and then but the sun wins the endurance contest. Highs make the low-to-mid 60s and with the winds out of the picture that should feel dandy. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: This is a quintessential fall evening with a nice chill in the air and a starry sky and maybe even the smell of a fireplace or two. Readings quickly drop through the 50s. It is calm for a change too. Lows should chill down to the upper 30s to lower 40s burbs and mid-40s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday is another beauty with tons of sun. A great day for area football games and for that matter across the country! Barely a hint of a breeze is a good complement. Highs range from low-to-mid 60s. The evening is nice but cools quickly under crystal clear skies. Jackets are required for the readings in the 50s. Lows should drop to the upper 30s colder outlying areas but still run mid-40s city. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday quickly recovers from its chilly start. Sunshine is dominant with just some high clouds to tone down the blue sky in the afternoon. Still not a breath of wind to mention. Highs manage the mid-to-upper 60s. Lows run from the low 40s outside the beltway to upper 40s in city center. Confidence: Medium

Monday sees more clouds, but plenty of breaks for sun too. The highs still manage to reach a respectable mid -to-upper 60 range. Confidence: Medium
