FORECAST IN DETAIL

Ever since Labor Day came and passed, it seems cloudy days have outnumbered sunny ones, and we just can’t break into a sustained stretch of blue skies and low humidity. This is, actually, quite common for September, when cold fronts just don’t have enough umph to kick out the onshore flow and clouds. The partly to mostly cloudy and sometimes rainy trend continues the next few days. But the weekend may show improvement, and October is on the horizon - a month that often features some of our finest weather.

Today (Wednesday): Upper-level low pressure centered over the Midwest and a moist flow from the south/southeast out ahead of it combine to keep us mostly cloudy today with a 50% chance of mainly afternoon showers, maybe including a couple rumbles of thunder. Highs should reach a somewhat humid mid-70s to near 80. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Shower chances stay around 50% with mostly cloudy skies and fairly mild lows in the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): Get ready for a pretty similar day to today, with partly to mostly cloudy skies, moderate humidity, and a 50% chance of mainly afternoon showers and storms. Temperatures are boosted by a warmer breeze from the south/southwest, with highs near 80 to the low 80s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Shower chances remain around 50% during the evening before probably increasing overnight or toward morning. Lows continue on the mild side, in the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Well I’m afraid a good chunk of Friday may prove to be rather rainy as a cold front approaches and moves through. Can’t rule out some thunder, either. I doubt we’ll see much (if any) sun, though highs should still manage the mid-to-upper 70s thanks to flow from the south ahead of the front. A decent chance of showers lingers Friday night with lows in the 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium

Given the tendency of September fronts to stall out, I’m not ready to go with all-out sunshine this weekend. Still, at the very least the weather should be somewhat improved with increasing sun and decreasing rain chances especially by Sunday, highs in the mid-70s to near 80, and Saturday night lows within a few degrees of 60. Confidence: Low-Medium
