8:05 a.m. update: After the line of showers and some thunder now moving north of town, we should see things quiet down. But isolated to scattered showers remain possible through the day.EXPRESS FORECAST

The showers today will be few and far between until late day. A few lightning strokes are possible but they will be the exception. We do a repeat tomorrow with late day showers and a possible thundershower. Then it is all clear sailing as our new found knack of getting the nice weather on the weekend works once again. It will be a little on the chilly side but pretty close to normal for this time of year. Fall is definitely upon us: pumpkin carving anyone?
Today (Thursday): There will be plenty of moist air and that is likely to lead to some fog to start the morning. Be careful out there on the roads, which are likely to be a little slick. I would not be surprised to see some decent breaks in the clouds at midday and readings getting into the low-to-mid 70s. However, a line or two of showers and a spotty thundershower are likely to breeze through by late afternoon. Rain chances are 60%. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: Showers should linger into the early evening but most areas should dry out later on. The chance of a shower will slip to 30% after 8 pm. Temperatures should hold in the upper 60s until late night and lows should only slip to the lower 60s.

Tomorrow (Friday): This is almost a deja vu kind of day. The clouds and moist air greet us in the morning. A few breaks in the clouds are likely and then the showers and a few thundershowers return again late day, 60% chance. Highs reach the lower 70s. This is where the similarity with the day before ends, as the showers are a product of a strong cold front coming in. Winds shift from coming out of the south to the west and pick up to 10-15 mph. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow night: Noticeably drier and cooler air surges across the area in the evening. Skies quickly clear and winds remain brisk from the west. Evening readings quickly drop through the 60s and head into the 50s so bring the jacket. Lows should get down to a more seasonable level in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Confidence: Medium-HighA LOOK AHEAD
Saturday has a bit of a nip to it as winds keep up a blustery pace much of the day. Highs struggle to make the mid-to-upper 60s. However, with a bright blue sky who can complain. The evening chills down quickly and the main consolation is winds die down. The readings will be in the 50s. Lows should drop to the lower 40s burbs but upper 40s city. Confidence: Medium-High
Sunday has a chilly start but the sun is up to the challenge and readings come up quickly. A quick moving disturbance to our north could come just close enough to push some high clouds into the area and take the shine off the afternoon. We leave that to the Redskins! Winds from the west may pick up during the day. Highs still manage the upper 60s to lower 70s. Evening readings are comfortable 60s under starry skies. Lows run from the low-to-mid 50s. Confidence: Medium
Monday is another fine day with mostly sunny morning skies and then just high clouds in the afternoon. Highs reach the upper 60s to lower 70s. Confidence: Medium
