FORECAST IN DETAIL

If you can stand a couple days of cooler air, it will wane -- and so will the windy conditions -- by Sunday. It looks like a fairly dry upcoming period, where warmth is more favored than cold air. By Sunday we should see 60s again, and by Monday it could near or hit 70. That trend continues into the workweek. Break out the spring gear?

Today (Friday): The weather is changing from yesterday, and calendar day highs may end up being overnight as we’ll struggle to climb much today. There’s a very slight chance of a lingering shower, particularly if you’re up really early. Other than that, it’s partly cloudy and breezy to windy as afternoon highs top out in the 50s. Winds blow around 15-20 mph, with gusts toward 30 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: It’s a decent night for star (or planet) gazing, as skies completely clear and Jupiter & Venus really light up the sky. Look southwest! Northwest winds slowly die down below 10 mph, but you may still want to keep warm with an extra layer. Temperatures fall quickly toward eventual lows in the upper 20s to low 30s. Some frost appears possible outside the Beltway if the wind calms enough. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Saturday): It might feel chilly, with temperatures struggling to get into the upper 40s to lower 50s. Bright sunshine with only a few clouds should help us though and it’s sure getting strong these days. Also, northwest winds around 10 mph should slowly shift, and hopefully relax a bit more. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Even past dinner time the sky stays mostly clear. Heat radiates away from the surface very easily on clear sky nights, so lows head to a range of near 30 to the mid-30s. Remember to set your clocks ahead before bed! Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday: Even with the time change, most of us will enjoy the virtual 12 hours of daylight. As our cool air mass starts modifying, we also have the ingredient of very sunny conditions, thus allowing for mild highs in the 60-65 degree range. With little to no wind, it is a great weekend day for outdoor activities! Agree? Remember to start using sunscreen if out in the sun for more than an hour, though! Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Sunday night: The sun sets after dinner (for most of us) and it could be a colorful one, if a few clouds move in as I currently expect. Overnight, it could stay mostly cloudy, which helps keep low temperatures a bit milder (clouds act like a blanket) in the upper 30s to, perhaps, mid-40s downtown. Confidence: Medium

Monday may continue the somewhat-to-mostly cloudy theme. If we see more sun than I currently expect, some spots could hit 70 -- mainly south of town. Even with clouds, though, we still should get everyone into the mid-60s, if not upper 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tuesday could start with a brief shower, especially in the early morning. Still, some sun should break through the cloud cover from time to time, especially if a warm front continues to pull away toward the north. Behind it, we would have more sunshine overspread the area and highs could get into the 70s fairly easily! Confidence: Low
