Forecast: Thickening clouds late, wet tomorrow

NatCast: Cool and breezy Friday night game

9:35 a.m. update: Clouds are hard to find so far and don’t appear to be ready to thicken in the short term. Temperatures seem to want to rise into the low-and-mid 60s thanks to extra sun. Enjoy!

Increasing clouds & a breeze make highs near 60 feel cool. Slightly annoyed we've got another grayish Friday!

FORECAST IN DETAIL

In always trying to remain positive, I found upsides to our impending gray-streak: washed-out pollen & lower UV levels. Temperatures remain coolish for the next two days, along with increasing wind. And a good amount of raw-feeling rain may fall Saturday. Sunday is what we all look forward to -- clearing skies and temperatures back up a bit. Next week looks possibly even warmer, above 70 for a stretch? So, just hunker down and know that there might be light at the end of this tunnel!

Clouds: Latest mid-Atlantic infrared satellite shows movement of clouds over past two hours. Refresh page to update. See more maps on our Weather Wall.

Today (Friday): While yes I wish it were as nice as yesterday, it isn’t as bad as last week’s streak of weather. Sunshine may be dominant at times, before clouds increase during the afternoon. Regret that on top of clouds, a slightly raw easterly breeze develops, between 10 and 15 mph. Any clouds & breeze off the ocean will quash high temperatures -- hovering around 60 or maybe a little higher. Northeast of here may only make mid-50s, and southwest mid-60s or better. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: We’re mostly cloudy and stuck with those easterly winds around 10-15 mph. In part because of a storm system churning out west, and how it interacts with a high pressure to our north. A sprinkle or a few spots of drizzle are possible, with an increased chance of a shower between midnight and dawn. Lows won’t head down too far, in the mid-to-upper 40s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Saturday): Looks... not so good. Be prepared to hunker down and stay indoors for at least portions of the day. We may hit 60 if we are lucky--but probably only briefly, with much of the day in the 50s. Rain could be incessant during the midday or afternoon as isolated thundershowers become possible -- luckily it is a cooler, more stable air mass than it could be, so severe storms might end up somewhat muted, though they’re still a risk (especially south). But, east and southeast winds around 15-25 mph may gust to 30+. We have to watch for downpours potentially bringing daytime totals to .75” or more in spots. Spring cleaning time indoors? Play some video games? Confidence: Low-Medium

Tomorrow night: The cold front may be still working its way through the area during the evening, thus keeping chances for a thunderstorm and heavy showers in our cards. Winds stay up, out of the south for a time, around 15-25 mph. Lows should be a few degrees milder than Friday night, in the upper 40s, to around 50 as winds shift to the west behind the front. Confidence: Low-Medium

Sunday: Palm Sunday for some, and potentially worshiped by all? An increasingly delightful and well-deserved day. Skies clear during the morning, making way for mostly sunny conditions by afternoon. High temperatures thaw us out, in the mid-60s. We could bump this up a little bit, but it depends on how much and for how long we have warming sunshine. The Nats are still in town playing the Brewers -- probably the best game weather of the series! Also, I hear the D.C. Challenge scavenger hunt was delayed from Saturday until Sunday, due to weather (good call). Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

On Sunday night we stay mostly clear with only slowly falling temperatures into the mid-to-upper 40s (downtown might hover near 50). Confidence: Medium

Come Monday, the sunnier and more pleasant streak should continue. There may still be a few clouds around, but not a bothersome amount. Above 70(!) looks possible, especially south of town. Enjoy the April thaw! Well, after you hit “submit” on the e-file tax program, at least... Confidence: Medium

By Tuesday the regime of warmer, above-average, temperatures should continue, with a high in the low-to-mid 70s. There is a 40% chance we have a few showers move in as skies cloud up more and more throughout the day. They could keep the temperatures down a bit, but nothing too serious at this point. You can bet we’ll keep you posted. Confidence: Low-Medium
