FORECAST IN DETAIL

We had plenty of spring-like weather during the winter, so I guess it’s only appropriate we now see summer weather during spring. The next few days are about as summery as you can get in early May, with highs mainly in the 80s and the chance of an occasional shower or thunderstorm. We’ll even notice a bit of humidity. But don’t worry if you’re not yet ready for a permanent flip to summer. We should cool down at least a bit as we get into next week.

Today (Wednesday): Quite the summery day we have in store today, with partly sunny skies and highs in the low-to-mid 80s. We’ll even get a taste of humidity, in the moderate range for early May. And that’s all the ingredients we need for a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, either early this morning if showers and storms approaching from the west hold together, and/or this afternoon into early evening. Confidence: Medium

What’s This?

Tonight: Shower/storm chances should diminish during the evening, though may increase again overnight and toward sunrise. Overall chances of seeing a shower or storm are around 30%. Lows are nice and mild, from the upper 50s to the mid-60s under partly cloudy skies. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): Say it with me friends: “Back-door cold front.” It means a front coming from the north and/or east, rather than the usual north and/or west. We’ve got one of them not too far from us tomorrow. I’m leaning toward most of us staying on the warm side of the front with highs in the 80s, but 70s could be the limit for some if the front pushes far enough to the south and west. Skies should be partly sunny with a 30% chance of showers or storms. Confidence: Low

Tomorrow night: Still can’t drop the 30% chance of showers or storms. Otherwise, we’re looking at partly cloudy skies and lows remaining rather mild, somewhere in the 60s. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

The set-up for Friday and Saturday look a lot like today, with partly sunny skies, highs in the 80s, and a 30% chance of showers and storms. Friday night lows fall back to the 60s again. Confidence: Medium

Saturday night and Sunday, higher pressure tries to edge its way in from the north and west. If successful, that would mean a diminished chance of showers and storms, with Sunday highs in the 70s to near 80 under partly to mostly sunny skies. Confidence: Low-Medium
