FORECAST IN DETAIL

Late-season snow is on the way as a cold front coming through tomorrow night provides a shot of arctic air to the region. An upper-level low in the front’s wake could be enough to whiten the ground just in time for the Tuesday morning commute. 80s one week, snow the next - only in DC! Yeah yeah, April fool’s. Anyway, we’re looking at a decent day today before a decent chance of showers and maybe a thunderstorm this evening with a cold front. Highs through midweek range from the 60s to low 70s.

Today (Sunday): We’re looking at a mix of clouds and sun today with highs pretty similar to yesterday - hopefully in the mid-60s, but if it’s too cloudy than maybe only low 60s. Clouds lower later in the afternoon or toward evening as a new system approaches from the west, and we pick up a chance of showers after 6 p.m. or so. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Showers are a decent bet (60% chance) during the evening, and don’t be surprised by a couple rumbles of thunder. The showers should move out overnight and skies quickly clear behind them. Lows range from the mid- 40s to the low 50s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Monday): We’ll enjoy plenty of sun through the day, but an occasionally gusty breeze from the northwest keeps temperatures from warming as much as they would otherwise. Still, we should manage highs in the mid-60s again. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: We’re probably not in danger of another frost, but it’s a chilly overnight nonetheless. Clear skies and calm winds allow temperatures to dip quickly after sunset. Expect lows in the mid-30s to low 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Tuesday could be borderline “Nice Day” material, as plenty of sun early boosts us back to the upper 60s to low 70s for highs. But we’ll have to watch for increasing afternoon clouds and a chance of showers toward evening. Spotty showers are possible Tuesday night with mostly cloudy skies and lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. Confidence: Medium

Any morning showers should move out fairly early Wednesday followed by clearing skies. Mostly sunny skies for the bulk of the day should help highs back to the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium
