FORECAST IN DETAIL

The weekend gets off to a solid start as sunshine is abundant throughout this morning. By late afternoon, clouds increase a bit later and a shower risk arrives, mainly for the overnight and mainly rather light. For sure, it will be nicer than the 90s I’ll be facing from where I write this from the Plains as high pressure pumps up in the midsection of the country and promises at least a light warming trend in D.C. heading into the workweek.

Today (Saturday): We should see partly sunny skies, though by late day, clouds are probably on the increase as a weak disturbance moves toward the area. I wanted to break out the Nice Day stamp, with highs heading past 70 and toward the mid-70s with a light breeze from the northwest. But, there is some risk of showers before the day ends so no special icon today. It’ll be close though. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Increased clouds bring a shower risk by evening (30-40%) that continues through the first half of the night before generally wanting to move south of the area by morning. However, the rain may never get far, so the shower risk probably remains a slight one into morning. Lows should reach near 50 to the mid-50s. Confidence: Medium

Mother’s Day (Sunday): An area of showers remains quite close to the area and it may drift back by (30% chance) at some point in the day. I think the day is largely salvageable though as we see some sunshine and highs reaching near 70 to the low 70s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: We keep the clouds around through much of the night, and there could be a brief sprinkle or shower but those odds are low, about 10%. Lows reach near 50 to the mid-50s. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

On Monday the relatively stagnant pattern continues with some sunshine and also warming of temperatures as air from the south and southwest pushes in. Moisture may still be around too, so though I think it’s largely dry, there could be a shower here or there. Highs should reach the mid-to-upper 70s. Confidence: Medium

Tuesday? You guessed it. Still kind of similar, and perhaps another slight step up in temperatures with highs in the mid-70s to near 80. We’ll probably see a fair amount of sun again but keep an eye on moisture to the south and west for a shower threat. Confidence: Medium
