FORECAST IN DETAIL

November has really let us off easy, with very few wet and/or unpleasantly cold days. Sunny days have dominated and they’ll do so again this week. We’ll have to wait until the second half of the week for most of the sun though, as Tuesday and especially Wednesday are cloudy and wet at times. Today, we won’t see a ton of sunshine, but mild temps make up for it.

Today (Monday): Strong flow from the southwest taps some pretty mild air so despite considerable cloud cover at times, temperatures make a run well into the 60s. Areas in central Virginia will probably reach the 70s, especially if they can muster some sunshine. Around here, I can’t rule out a sprinkle, but it’s more or less dry. You’ll notice breezy conditions from the southwest at 10-15 mph with some gusts over 20 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: A cloudy, breezy and mild evening. The southerly flow keeps low temperatures from dropping below 50 in many spots, with some the some of the cooler suburbs perhaps dipping into the upper 40s. While cloudy, it remains dry for the most part. By the early morning hours, there’s a 30% chance of showers. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): A cold front works into the region, but the southerly flow out ahead of it produces more mild 60s. A 70-degree reading or two can’t be ruled out south of D.C. Showers are possible (50-60% chance) especially in the afternoon, when there may also be a thunderstorm. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Mostly cloudy with showers still a possibility (40-50% chance). Lows are near 50. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Wednesday may be the week’s wettest day as low pressure rides along the front stalled over the region. Rain and embedded thunderstorms are likely (60-70% chance), and may be heavy at times. Finally the front clears late in the day, with highs near 60. Clearing, breezy and cooler Wednesday night, with lows 35-40. Confidence: Medium

Cold high pressure builds in Thursday from the west. Skies are partly to mostly sunny with highs struggling to 50 accompanied by a gusty breeze at times. Clear, cold, and calm Thursday night, with lows 26-34 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium-High

High pressure sets up shop over the region Friday and Saturday giving us another duo of bright sunny days and cold, clear nights. Highs Friday reach the low-to-mid-50s, climbing up to the mid-to-upper 50s Saturday. Lows both days range from the mid-20s to mid-30s (downtown). Confidence: Medium

On Sunday, high pressure moves offshore, bringing back flow from the south. That results in somewhat milder temps and some increase in high clouds. Highs are probably in the low 60s. Confidence: Medium
