FORECAST IN DETAIL

In a month, and (so far) a winter, where warmth is the rule, it’s probably no surprise that much of the forecast period will feature milder than normal air. The general story through Monday is a step-down in temperatures, and then on Tuesday we start to go back the other way as the month of January closes. While it looks like February starts on the same warm and snowless note, it’s hard to forget how many big snowstorms have happened in that month!

Snow Potential Index: 1 (→) - Chance of a late Sunday snowflake. Not much after that for next week. May trend more favorable after though.

Today (Saturday): Get ready for more sun! It’s another not-too-wintry one out there with cool morning temperatures rising to mild afternoon readings mainly in the mid-50s. Winds blow from the west around 10-15 mph with higher gusts. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Under partly clouds skies, our gradual cool down continues, and that means 20s return to the map in spots. It’s January, so what do we expect, right? It’s actually still a bit warmer than normal, with lows in the upper 20s to mid-30s. Confidence: Medium-High

Keep reading for the forecast through the beginning of next week...

Tomorrow (Sunday): It’s mostly sunny in the morning, but clouds probably increase during the afternoon as a little system swings by to the north. A few showers of either rain or snow should pass by during the evening, mainly to the north, but a finger of this precipitation may enter into the area. It’s hard to say for sure what form it will take thanks to afternoon temperatures in the mid-40s to near 50 being rather warm, but also cooler air beginning to filter in during the evening. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Clouds may linger through the first half of the night, but a clearing trend should commence after the evening. Lows head for the upper 20s and lower 30s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

We are again graced with a good deal of sun on Monday. It’s also a bit chillier than it’s been, but not really “cold” for the end of January. Highs should reach the low-to-mid 40s, and clouds may be back on the increase by the afternoon as a dry warm front (mainly a wind shift) comes through during the afternoon or evening. That means warmer overnight lows again, ranging from near freezing to the upper 30s. Confidence: Medium

Tuesday brings a return of more springlike weather that could last through much of the rest of the work week. Mostly sunny skies should be the main story of the day, and under all that sunshine temperatures should not have much trouble reaching the mid-50s. Confidence: Medium
