“Operation Spring Showers” is currently in full swing. Some of the heaviest activity from the campaign should move through this morning. But, this slow-moving weather situation gives us more opportunities for showers this afternoon, tonight, and even tomorrow afternoon and evening as the cold front finally passes through. Hopefully, by that point, most of our area will have a sufficient moisture supply as we march into a beautiful weather period from Thursday into the weekend.

Today (Tuesday): Showers this morning could be moderate to heavy at times, but they fade away from south to north as the morning wears. Variable skies today with a possible partly sunny segment or two before more showers and maybe thundershowers pop up again this afternoon. Highs in the mid-to-upper 70s with light winds from the south and west. Precipitation totals this morning could reach around .25 to .5” with locally heavier totals possible. Afternoon showers/thunderstorms are more scattered with less consistent accumulations, but all are welcome! Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely (60% probability), especially during the evening hours. Cloudy overnight with lows from the upper 50s to middle 60s (warmest in the city). Light winds from the south. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Partly sunny and warmer with afternoon temperatures surging into the low-to-mid 80s in most areas. A 30% chance of afternoon showers and even thunderstorms must be included as the cold front approaches the area by late afternoon toward evening. Despite the warmer temperatures, the humidity starts to dry out a bit with lower dew points, so it should not feel that uncomfortable. Light winds mainly from the west. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: A 20% chance of evening showers, but otherwise, partly cloudy overnight and cooler with lows dropping down toward the low-to-mid 50s (maybe a bit warmer yet in the city). Confidence: Medium

Thursday and Friday look spectacular in terms of sunshine, pleasant temperatures, and comfortably low humidity levels. Both of these days should qualify for Nice Day status if the forecast holds consistent. Hopefully, we will have washed away enough pollen to not regenerate as much trouble for the allergy sufferers. Highs in the mid-to-upper 70s both days with lows Thursday night ranging widely from the upper 40s out near Dulles to the mid-to-upper 50s in the city. Confidence: Medium

The weekend continues the wonderful weather stretch with mostly sunny skies, comfortable temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s (maybe hitting 80F in spots), and cool overnight temperatures mostly in the 50s. Jason mentioned an upper level low offshore that bears watching, and it still does. The system could offer some onshore flow and low-level clouds toward the Delmarva coast on Sunday, but as of now, it is not expected to impact the DC-area. Confidence: Low-Medium
