FORECAST IN DETAIL

The gem of the next few days should be today, even if we end up seeing a few more clouds than yesterday, so please get out and enjoy! Slowly but surely we have atmospheric “activity” coming toward us as we head into midweek. Expect rain chances by Tuesday and more so Tuesday night into Wednesday. Winds are on the decline starting today, though could gust again Wednesday into Thursday, before nicer weather attempts a comeback late week into the weekend.

Today (Sunday): Looking good. Mostly to partly sunny and breezy, but not as breezy as yesterday, when even 30 mph gusts didn’t seem so bad. Highs should head for near 70 to the mid-70s as breezes from the southwest blow around 10-20 mph with gusts near 25 mph. If skies end up clouding up a bit in the afternoon, then highs would be be closer to the low end of the range - still, we’ll take it, right? Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Should be fairly mild for October, though we do cool rather quickly once the sun goes down. The stars could mix with a moderate amount of clouds - with just a slight chance of a shower - as lows range from near 50 outside the Beltway to as high as the mid-50s downtown. Breezes continue from the southwest, around 10-15 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Keep reading for the forecast through midweek...

Tomorrow (Monday): Appears to be trending cloudy - we’ll call it partly to mostly cloudy for now - with a slight chance of a morning shower. Afternoon highs should level around the 70-degree mark, though mid-70s wouldn’t be out of the question with a few more peeks of sun than I’m currently expecting. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Could be pretty darn cloudy, but on the mild side again with a 20% chance we see a shower or two. Lows should bottom from near 50 to the mid-50s just before sunrise. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Tuesday might start with some morning clouds and a brief shower. But much of the day should see partly to mostly sunny skies and a nice warm-up as breezes come from the south ahead of low pressure moving toward us from the Midwest. Highs should reach at least the mid-70s, and with enough sun near 80 could be in play. Shower chances enter the picture again by late afternoon or evening, with rain likely Tuesday night. Confidence: Low-Medium

On Wednesday, clouds win out over the sun for much - if not most - of the day. Rain chances linger around 50-60% at least into the morning, before likely decreasing by or during the afternoon as winds increase. Highs could be somewhat cool, in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Confidence: Low
