FORECAST IN DETAIL

We need some new alerts for this weather: frizzy hair advisory, mold watch, dripping tree warning...something. Once again we find ourselves on the wrong side of an upper level low pressure system going nowhere. This is no tropical storm Lee but with a steady flow from the south it will have no moisture deficit. The one glimmer of hope is that Saturday looks like it might provide a few breaks but outdoor activities will remain touch and go.

Today (Thursday): Light showers may greet morning commuters and a dense overcast makes headlights a must. In addition to that, we are losing a couple minutes of light every morning this time of year! Rain is a 60% chance in the morning but looks to drop off to sprinkles or widely scattered showers in the afternoon. A quarter of an inch of rain should be the max on amounts. Winds are very light from the south. Highs do no better than the mid-to-upper 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: It should be dank, damp and drizzly this evening. Rains are likely to be on the uptick but not until late night. Rain probabilities are still at 70%. Winds are essentially calm, so at least the umbrellas will be effective. Readings meander to lows in the upper 60s to 70. Confidence: Medium-High

Keep reading for the forecast through the weekend...

Tomorrow (Friday): This is the main rain day with a 90% chance of frequent showers as well as a possible thundershower or two. Rain amounts could total around an inch in large parts of the region. Temperatures rise modestly with highs in the mid-to-upper 70s. The only breeze of note will be 5-10 mph from the south during heavier showers. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: The rains are likely to taper off at some point but when is a tough call. Evening showers are still a good bet. There could be another half inch in many areas before rain diminishes. Temperatures slip just slightly farther and this could lead to some patchy fog. Lows should bottom out in the low-to-mid 60s. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday: should have a little bit of everything, maybe even a moment or two of sun. But don’t get used to it. The bulk of the day will remain cloudy and showers are still a good bet at 50-60%, especially in the afternoon and evening. Highs should be mainly in the mid-to-upper 70s. The evening should remain in the lower 70s. Lows should end up in the uppr 50s to lower 60s. Confidence: Medium

Sunday is not much different with plenty of clouds and occasional showers (60% chance). The “drearies” are really starting to set in. Temperatures again climb to the mid-to-upper 70s. Overnight lows range from the upper 50s to lower 60s. Confidence: Medium

Monday looks like it might try to scare us by revealing our shadow a time or two but I have little doubt that clouds, showers and muggy weather prevail much of the day. Let’s give another 60% chance of rain and that is being conservative. Highs cluster around the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium
