Limited sunshine, too cool for my liking, and a p.m. shower risk. We could still use any rain though. Get the Digit on Twitter| Discuss on Facebook

FORECAST IN DETAIL

On average, spring is kicking into gear by now most years. But there’s still a battle with cooler air here and there, and we’ll see that play out this weekend. Today’s temperatures are muted by clouds. That’s followed by a return of sunshine on Sunday which sends readings back upwards. First, some rain may fall, though probably not enough to have any meaningful impact on our prolonged dry spell.

Today (Saturday): It might be a good morning for a pretty sunrise, but if there are any breaks early they should quickly fill in. Once we get past the midday and into afternoon, we’ll need to watch for a few showers moving in from the south and west. I don’t anticipate they’ll produce much in the way of rain, yet they could be an annoyance off and on once they arrive. To top it off, we combine some marine air with cloud cover to create a rather cool one. Highs only top out in the upper 50s to low 60s, though under an outcome with a bit more south winds, we might get further into the 60s. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Hang out at home with a movie? After our early taste of spring it’s going to be a bit uninviting out there. Off-and-on showers (60% chance) mixed with temperatures dipping perhaps well into the 40s aren’t too spring like. Morning lows range from about 42-47. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Sunday): Optimism is growing in the Sunday forecast as it seems clouds and precipitation chances are going to try to exit on the early side (maybe even by sunrise). Into midday, we’ve got partly to mostly sunny skies with temperatures heading into the 60s. Clouds could hang out pretty close to, so it’s hard to pull the nice day trigger yet, but I’m leaning toward a fairly solid one with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Mostly clear skies allow temperatures to dip perhaps a bit further than during our cloud-capped Saturday night. Some lows in the mid-or-upper 30s seem a strong bet for the north and west suburbs, and the city may get into the low-and-mid 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

On Monday, we continue with plentiful sunshine, at least through much of the day. By mid-to-late afternoon, clouds could start increasing as warmer air begins a push toward the area. Highs should rise toward the upper 60s and some spots could top 70. Confidence: Medium

We deal with additional clouds and increased shower chances (30-40%) for Tuesday, as the warm front pushes through and some potential energy rides along it. There should be at least periods of increased sun though, and temperatures are on the way up -- to the mid-70s or so. Looks like higher in the days after too! Confidence: Low-Medium
