FORECAST IN DETAIL

Can you hang on just a bit longer? We have showers and storms with a fair amount of clouds for just one more day before a slightly brisk—but clear—weekend ahead. Keep that windbreaker or light jacket out on the coat rack in case you go out in the early morning or late hours. We’ll have some chilly moments. But as we head into the workweek next week, we’ll have those 70s back and still decent amounts of sunshine.

Today (Friday): One last day of clouds and showers (70% chance) with perhaps even midday or afternoon thunderstorms. Rain may end up hit-or-miss, but those who hit can still expect potentially heavy rain. A cold front approaching may eventually show us increasing peeks of sun, but what also may accompany this increased sunshine is a stiffening northwest wind. Highs could briefly rise through the low 70s before slowly falling as the winds pick up. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Some clouds, some breeze may continue to keep the evening less than ideal. A few showers (30% chance) may pass through, mainly before the nightly news airs. But overall, we should have some drier air streaming in to make our weekend quite enjoyable. Lows downtown could be as “warm” as around 50 downtown, but most areas (outside the Beltway) should end up in the mid-or-upper 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

Keep reading for the forecast through the beginning of next week...

Tomorrow (Saturday): Temperatures could get as high as 70, if skies stay completely blue as currently expected. But just be aware of some southwest winds (could gust to 30 mph!) that keep temperatures feeling just a bit cooler. If a few clouds roll in, temperatures could be capped in the upper 60s. That lowering sun angle... Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: I’ll call this “could get very chilly” as the night wears on, with low temperatures just before sunrise in the 40s region-wide. In the District, temperatures in the upper 40s should likely be the warmest lows with outlying areas mainly in the mid-40s. Confidence: Medium

Sunday: This one should live up to its name! As temperatures rise quickly due to bright sunshine, we can peel off our early-morning jackets. Despite a few high clouds possible by later afternoon, the Redskins and tourists along the Mall—both—will enjoy highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. As the sun gets lower and potential clouds filter the infrared, you may need to get out that windbreaker again due to still breezy conditions. Confidence: Medum

A LOOK AHEAD

Sunday night: It should be a clear night, overall and pretty darn comfortable. You can likely expect lows in a range of near 50 to the mid-50s. Confidence: Medium

A few few clouds, especially in the afternoon, might stream overhead on Monday; but, overall we probably will have a good deal of sunshine and decent temperatures. Cooler spots may only hit the upper 60s, warmer spots (especially south of town) could hit in the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium

Tuesday might be a tad warmer and also just a tad sunnier than Monday. It looks as though everyone could get into the 70s again! Humidity levels should remain really comfortable as well. We’re running out of time to savor this stuff. Confidence: Low-Medium
