FORECAST IN DETAIL

Today (Saturday): Today: We should start off at least partly sunny, though a small spoke of energy aloft will move toward us as the day progresses. With that, we’re likely to see increased cloudiness and a growing chance of showers. The best odds of midday and afternoon showers or thundershowers of consequence should be over western and southern parts of the area, and to the southwest of that. On average, centered on D.C., we run about a 50% chance of raindrops at some point in the day. Light and variable winds are no bother. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Showers are possible through about sunset, but they should wane as night sets in, if not prior. Otherwise, it’s mostly cloudy, with hopefully some clearer breaks for moon viewing. It’s also a bit cooler than recent nights, as temperatures reach the mid-50s to near 60. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): Partly sunny skies are on tap, though with a shift in wind to the east, we’ll need to watch for clouds being peskier than forecast. In other words, periods of mostly cloudy would not shock me. There may be an errant sprinkle around too. Still, we should see enough sun to boost afternoon highs up around 70 and maybe even toward the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Partly to mostly cloudy conditions rule the evening and overnight. With the cooler starting point, we’ll see temperatures drop a little lowe than tonight -- down into the low-and-mid 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

On Monday, it’s more of the same general conditions. Which means... partly sunny skies during the day and highs rising to near and above 70. Any shower threat is quite low, though we’ll still have a frontal zone not too far off, so we’ll have to watch and see how it evolves. At night? Partly to mostly cloudy, and lows in the 50s. Confidence: Medium

A system to the west starts to get closer during Tuesday, and that may help pump in some increased warmth out ahead of it. Shower chances are up as well, though still less than 50/50 and it looks like better odds come into Wednesday for now. An increased south and southwest wind should help temperatures head for the mid-70s to near 80, before any showers may arrive. Confidence: Low-Medium
