FORECAST IN DETAIL

The week ahead is neither a washout nor scorching hot. But rather, it’s something in between. The typical day features highs near 90 and the opportunity for afternoon and evening storms. But some days top out as low as the mid-80s or as high as the mid-90s and storm chances are slim. Tuesday and Wednesday may be the wettest and coolest days while the weekend brings the heat.

Today (Monday): Nothing too remarkable about today. Skies provide a mix of sun and clouds with a 20-30 percent chance (highest odds towards the mountains) of showers and storms late in the day. It’s moderately humid with highs mainly in the upper 80s. Light winds from the southeast. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: A chance of evening storms (20 percent); otherwise, partly cloudy with lows from the mid-to-upper 60s in the cooler suburbs to the low-to-mid 70s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): A weak upper level disturbance swings by - enough to generate partly to mostly cloudy skies and a 30-40 percent chance of showers and storms, especially in the afternoon. Highs should manage to reach the mid-80s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Storms are possible, mainly during the evening. Outside of any storms, it’s partly to mostly cloudy and mild, with lows 68-73 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

One more little wave in the atmosphere cycles through Wednesday, perhaps providing the best chance of showers and storms this week - at 40-50 percent. Lots of clouds probably hold high temperatures to the mid-80s. Drying out Wednesday night, with lows from the mid-60s in the cooler suburbs to the low 70s downtown. Confidence: Medium

Thursday through the weekend is partly to mostly sunny with slowly increasing temperatures. Highs Thursday climb into the upper 80s with low 90s Friday and low-to-mid 90s over the weekend. Afternoon thunderstorm chances are lowest Thursday at less than 20 percent and - at the moment - don’t look to get much higher than 20-30 percent through the weekend. Overnights are mild, with lows in the 62-67 in the cooler suburbs to 70-75 downtown. Confidence: Medium
