FORECAST IN DETAIL

Today marks the return to normal temperatures...for exactly one day. Yes, summer lovers, here you go. I would not be surprised to see some stray 90 degree readings by Saturday and a whole bunch of them by Sunday. The saving grace is humidity levels will be very slow to increase and for you beach/outdoor pool goers, plenty of sun to get you looking for a higher SPF!.

Today (Thursday): A mostly sunny start to the day should give way to a fair amount of pop up clouds by midday. There is the slight chance for an afternoon shower (20%) but even if it does catch you, it should be brief. Breezes are gentle, humidity is low, and highs are in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Clouds disappear quickly at sunset. Evening readings remain in the 70s with no breeze. The low humidity allows lows to drop to the mid-50s suburbs to lower 60s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): Sunshine is unchallenged and with the sun nearing its zenith for the season, temperatures climb rapidly. Highs top out in the low-to-mid 80s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Plenty of star shine and a nearly full moon grace our skies with evening readings in the mid-to-upper 70s. Lows end up in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday reminds us that we are well into June as temperatures start to reach perspiration levels by noontime. The humidity is only a smidge higher and hardly noticeable by D.C. standards. Mostly sunny skies allow highs to push into the mid-to-upper 80s and a few hot spots look bound to hit the 90 mark. Evening readings hold in the 80s with overnight lows in the 60s. Confidence: High

Sunday is full fledged summer weather combining mostly sunny skies, barely a breeze and moderate humidity. Highs top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s with a few overachievers likely to make mid-90s. Before you complain, we were already on our second day of record breaking 100+ readings last year on this date. The heat could be enough to set off a few brief but strong afternoon thundershowers (30% chance). The evening is warm with 80s to go around. Lows reach the mid-to-upper 60s to near 70 downtown Confidence: Medium

Monday is likely to be a warm one but there is reason to believe that a light wind from the east could take the edge off the heat despite plenty of sun to go around. Look for low-to-mid 80s but if my east winds falter, sorry, low 90s. Confidence: Medium
