Brace yourself, today will be the first cooler than normal day we will have seen in nearly a month! And better yet we do it again tomorrow too. That infernal, never-ending string of 90s should be out of commission for quite some time as well. The one thing that could make the upcoming weekend even better is if we finally get a good soaking rain to put a dent in our drought. There actually is a chance on Sunday but I am not holding my breath as this year has been one disappointment after another for area gardeners.
Today (Thursday): Bright crystal blue skies greet us today as does some unusually dry, mild air. The sun pounding on those dry soils still pushes highs to the mid-to-upper 80s, but who can complain? A light breeze from the north keeps the dry air filtering in. Confidence: High
Tonight: Evening brings a quick cool down to the 70s and makes dining al fresco a treat. Stars shine bright under clear skies with barely a breath of breeze. Lows are almost brisk, ranging from the upper 50s to mid-60s (downtown).
Keep reading for the forecast through the weekend...
Tomorrow (Friday): Delightfully mild temperatures persist under mostly sunny skies. Humidity is a thing of the past. Breezes remain barely detectable. Highs range from the mid-to upper 80s. Confidence: High
Tomorrow night: The evening is definitely one for getting out and about with readings quickly slipping back to the 70s. Some high clouds start to filter in but the chance of showers is minimal with dry air in place. Overnight lows reach the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: HighA LOOK AHEAD
Saturday is still comfortable as clouds become more and more frequent as the day progresses. There is a slight chance for isolated showers in the afternoon and evening, but only 20% of the area should see any disruption to outdoor activities. Humidity begins to inch up, but is still quite tolerable. A third day in a row of non-90s...priceless. Highs reach the mid-to-upper 80s in most locations. The full moon should peek between the evening clouds, but will someone please tell me why it is called the “sturgeon moon”? Lows should be in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Confidence: Medium-High
Sunday presents a real hope for some rain. I know it messes up some weekend plans and I am sorry, but for all our struggling trees this is a critical forecast. This is still no fool-proof event but there is a 70% chance of significant rainfall. The later it comes in the day, the more we should get due to more instability in the atmosphere. I am fearful that it doesn’t get in gear until too late, when it reaches the Bay, but my fingers are crossed. Humidity is climbing but temperatures are less so. Highs should reach the low-to-mid 80s. Lows slip to the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium
Monday starts out cloudy but quickly clears and better yet humidity slips lower again. Temperatures should zip up to the mid-to-upper 80s as the sun takes control by midday. Confidence: Medium
