Monumental lightning strikes over Washington, D.C. skyline (PHOTO)

How often do you see a photograph of three cloud-to-ground lightning bolts against a backdrop of four of Washington, D.C.’s iconic landmarks: the Lincoln, the Jefferson, the Washington Monument and the Capitol?

Photographer Brian MK Allen accomplished this feat Saturday night.

“I took the photo from my apartment in Rosslyn,” Allen said.

He added: “Took only about 100-150 attempts to time it right (using a 3-5 second exposure). Just got very lucky.”
