The China Meteorological Agency (CMA) has been busy preparing for the August Olympics in Beijing.
In May, China launched the FengYun-3 A satellite, which will support enhanced weather forecasts during the Olympics, according to the CMA, and has already sent back images to support earthquake relief activities. This is the second satellite China has launched in preparation for the summer Games. FY-2D went into orbit in late 2006.
China's Vice President Xi Jinping recently praised the work of the CMA, proclaiming that preparations for the Olympics have entered "actual combat" stage and that the agency should strive for first-class meteorological services.
