PM Update: Here comes the holiday weekend heat

Mother Nature gets the summer season started in style, that is if you like classic hot and humid DC area weather. Slap on the sunscreen, beware of rip currents, and otherwise prepare to enjoy a perfect weekend for the pool. Whatever you do, stay hydrated. Afternoon heat indices into the mid-90s will take their toll if you’re out in it too long.

Through Tonight: Maybe an isolated thundershower through evening, but looks like most of us stay dry. Evening temperatures eventually fall into the 70s with overnight lows mainly in the upper 60s to low 70s.

The Weekend: Think typical summer weather and you’ll know what to expect. Partly to mostly sunny skies help highs to near 90 to the low 90s Saturday through Memorial Day, and high humidity likely bumps afternoon heat indices into the mid-90s at least. The chance of a late-day thunderstorm is only about 20% or less Saturday and Sunday, increasing slightly to 20-30% for Monday. Overnight lows are quite muggy in the upper 60s to low 70s.
