Shooting star from space: U.S. astronaut on International Space Station captures amazing image

Shooting star photographed by astonaut Ron Garan aboard the International Space Station (NASA/Ron Garan (@Astro_Ron)
This may well be a first: NASA astronaut Ron Garan photographed a shooting star blazing through the Earth’s atmosphere from the International Space Station. He captured the image on Friday - around the time the Perseid meteor shower was peaking, and also, coincidentally, not long before we could see the International Space Station making a pass over our skies. Garan posted the picture on Twitter for the world to see. Cool stuff.

What a "Shooting Star" looks like #FromSpace Taken yesterday during Perseids Meteor Shower Thanks @JakeGaran 4 cam http://t.co/3TsuUnZless than a minute ago via Twitpic Favorite Retweet Reply
