Thanksgiving ice coats western Maryland

* Rain to end, turning colder: Full Forecast *

As a warm front pushed over a shallow wedge of cold air yesterday morning, a wintry mix of precipitation fell in central and western Maryland as well as northwest Virginia where temperatures hovered near freezing.

Spotty sleet was reported as close by as Montgomery and Fairfax counties early Thanksgiving morning. The closest reports of accumulating wintry precipitation came from Allegany county in Md. where between a trace and 0.2" of snow fell followed by as much as 0.8" of freezing rain. Further west, in Garrett County, the Post's Tim Craig reported yesterday: "Everything is coated in ice. Interstate 68 is fine, and just wet, but pretty thick ice on all the trees and grass."
