The stunning sunset after Saturday’s storm in Washington, D.C.

Ian Livingston showed us dramatic skies in his multimedia recount of Saturday’s severe thunderstorms. But the heavens appeared even more spectacular after the storms passed, as the sun set, the showers waned, and the clouds scattered.

The sunset images above and below boast diverse hues of oranges , purples, and yellows. And a few lucky photographers captured a rainbow concurrent with the sunset to further enrich the color palette.

The two images above were submitted to our new Flickr group (www.flickr.com/groups/capitalweather). Feel free to join it and share your work there.

The gallery below is a compilation of some additional Flickr images as well as some from Facebook and Twitter. It displays not only Saturday’s finest sunset images but some images of the storm itself and the damage. (Allow a few seconds to load)
