10:50 a.m. update: This watch has now been canceled.
From 10:00 a.m.: The tornado watch in effect through 10 a.m. has been extended in the eastern suburbs until noon.
In the District and points west, the watch has been allowed to expire. Though some gusty showers continue north and east of Fauquier and Prince William counties, the worst of the storms is over. So a lot of us can exhale, if the gusty winds and plummeting temperatures don't take our breath away. Reports indicate 20 degree temperature drops behind the storms.
To the east, radar shows an intense line of showers and storms racing through counties (St. Mary's, Calvert and Anne Arundel) adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay. These storms should exit that region in the next 30-45 minutes though a few more (probably weaker) showers and storms could linger a bit beyond that.
