Light snow, which fell only in very small quantities (mainly less than half an inch) overnight, has changed over to freezing rain and sleet across much of the area. Freezing rain and sleet will continue through the morning, accumulating on trees, powerlines and untreated sidewalks and roads. Temperatures, currently in the upper 20s to around 30, should remain below freezing through noon. During the afternoon, temperatures may near or surpass the freezing mark in DC and points south and east, but are likely to remain below freezing north and west of the District as precipitation continues.
Please use considerable caution if you need to commute this morning -- walking and driving. Because it did not snow much overnight, untreated surfaces that just look wet, may in fact be quite icy. While many major roads have been treated and will just be wet, ramps, overpasses, elevated roads, and bridges may be icy.
