Lightning in the eastern sky behind Washington, July 11, 2011.

Exactly one week after photographing the July 4th fireworks in Washington, I was back in Rossyln to photograph a different type of fireworks show. A storm to the east of Washington Monday evening put on a nice light show as it moved across the sky from northwest to southeast.

The storm missed Rossyln and the conditions were nearly perfect for photographing lightning. In all, I photographed about 20 lightning strikes associated with the storm and I have included a few of my favorites in this post.
