Cherry blossoms reach peak bloom at Tidal Basin (PICTURES)

The National Park Service says the cherry blossoms have reached peak bloom today. And what a wonderfully gorgeous day it is!

National Mall and Memorial Parks spokesperson Carol Johnson confirms that peak bloom has arrived. She says “come see them now because the weather could turn,” noting that a hard rain or windstorm could always cut the peak short (in fact, we have a chance of some gusty thunderstorms in our forecast for the Thursday-Friday timeframe).

Otherwise, Johnson says, the blossoms should remain in good viewing shape for one to two weeks.
