This week continues to be complicated by clouds, cool weather, and sometimes precipitation chances. Each day seems to offer a different story, which is generally more typical of transitional seasons like springtime. While most of this week is running cooler than normal due to cloud cover and cooler air masses, we do have a quick shot at cresting above 70-degrees tomorrow. The weekend is trending a bit wetter, but more on Sunday vs. Saturday so far.
Today (Tuesday): We see another cloud-filled, cool start to the morning with a slight chance of lingering drizzle. Temperatures take their time warming up through the 50s during the morning hours. But afternoon sunny breaks should allow us to peak in the low-to-mid 60s with light breezes from the north and northeast. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: Mostly clear during the evening shifts back toward the cloudy direction overnight as warmer breezes arrive from the southeast. Lows dip down into the 40s, but they could edge warmer toward dawn due to cloud cover and southerly flow. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): A cold front approaches the area to bring some stronger warmth ahead of it and then some showers and storms along by late in the day. Before that, partly to mostly cloudy conditions with some stronger breezes from the south and southwest at 10-15 mph pump high temperatures into the warmer mid-to-upper 70s range. This should be the warmest day of the week, but a 60% likelihood of showers and storms arrives towards late afternoon into evening. Confidence: Medium
Tomorrow night: Evening showers and storms could offer a heavier downpour or two into about 8 or 9 p.m. before tapering to showers toward midnight. Lows drop down behind the cold front into the low to mid 40s, but don’t be surprised to see some upper 30s west of Dulles and in the northern Maryland counties again. Confidence: Medium
A LOOK AHEAD
Thursday plops us back into a cool regime once again as the lingering cold front to the south could also trigger a few showers. We should see partly cloudy skies too as temperatures struggle to do much more than the low-to-mid 60s. Clearing some Thursday night with lows in the low-to-mid 40s. Confidence: Medium
Friday might actually turn out to be a nice day with middle to upper 60s for highs, partly to mostly sunny skies, and light breezes. Friday night sees partly cloudy skies with lows from the middle 40s to around 50 in the city. Confidence: Medium
So the weekend is looking a bit mixed right now. Saturday may start out nice, but then battle increasing clouds by the afternoon into the evening. Highs should be in the 60s and I think we manage to keep the day dry. But scattered showers pop up around the area Saturday night and become potentially more numerous on Sunday as low pressure south of us and high pressure to the north combine forces to give us a cloudy, cool onshore flow pattern. Highs may manage to get into the 60s at least. But the last Sunday of April wants to deliver a few more showers for us. Confidence: Low-Medium
