A persistent stream of air off the Atlantic ocean keeps us socked in with damp weather today, tomorrow and perhaps extending into Wednesday.  Today is the wettest of the bunch and we gradually trend towards drier weather as we head over the hump Wednesday.  The second half of the week may shape up swimmingly, with sunshine and milder temps.

Today (Monday): Yuck. The start of the work week greets us with overcast skies, rain and cool temps. The periods of steady rain are most likely from the morning commute through mid-afternoon. Then, rain may be taper.  Highs are near 60. Rainfall potential is 0.25-0.5 inches.  Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: We may not see much measurable rain overnight, but it remains cloudy and damp with areas of drizzle. Lows only drop off to 50-55. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): We’re staring at another cloudy, gray day with the best chance (60 percent chance) of any patchy light rain or drizzle in the morning with lesser chances in the afternoon (30 percent chance).  High reach into the low 60s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: What do ya know? Yet another cloudy, damp night with the possibility of  a little patchy light rain and/or drizzle.  Lows range from the upper 40s to low 50s. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

We may hold onto the cool, soupy weather for one more day Wednesday, or, we may begin the transition towards sunnier and more settled weather by then.  For now, I’ll make a hybrid forecast, with morning clouds/drizzle before skies brighten in the afternoon. Highs reach the mid-60s.  Partial clearing Wednesday night with areas of fog possible late, with lows 45-52 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Low-Medium

Thursday through Sunday could end up being a great stretch with increasing chances of sunshine.  Highs should be in the mid-60s to low 70s throughout with overnight lows mainly in the 40s. The two wild cards are 1) will the early week weather system exit in time to allow for a sunny Thursday,? 2) Could a weather system developing in the Midwest over the weekend deliver clouds/rain to the East Coast by Sunday? I think it will hold off, but it’s worth watching.  Confidence: Low
