Monstrous wave rolls off surface of sun

The sun unloaded a massive blast of charged particles early today giving the appearance of a gigantic wave on its surface.

The eruption, captured by NASA, is known as a coronal mass ejection (CME).

“CMEs can shoot over a billion tons of particles into space at over a million miles per hour,” NASA writes. “This CME occurred on the sun’s limb and is not headed toward Earth.”
